Accident Prevention Solution for Voltage Sag - "Smart POWER Vaccine®"

FAQ

Can I replace Ultra-Capacitor only not the entire TSP® after the deterioration of Ultra-Capacitor?
Yes. Ultra-Capacitor doesn’t need maintenance and has longer life time than a battery, but even so, it still has a fixed life time. Once the warning message saying the battery’s life has ended shows, we provide the replacement service for Ultra-Capacitor.
How can I check the status of Ultra-Capacitor?
Users can monitor the status of Ultra-Capacitor and also, important information will be provided with various methods including special life time management function and charge/discharge voltage sensing.
How long does it take to get recharged for Ultra-Capacitor after the voltage sag?
It depends on the duration of the voltage sag and the discharge level after the voltage sag. It is uncommon for Ultra-Capacitor to get completely discharged. In most cases, it takes less than 1 second to be recharged to reach the available level. Depending on the capacity, it takes about 5 times of usual recharging time. And the charging time can be reduced by increasing the percentage(%) setting of TSP®’s charging current considering the power capacity of installed panelboard.
Where do I attach/install TSP®?

Ideally, TSP® should be attached/installed at control panel, MCC(Motor Control Center) or inside of switch board or in the leading-in power terminal of the automated equipment. If there is not enough space, it can be attached in the outside, upper side of the equipment or other convenient location. In this case, it must be noted that the connection terminal has to be exposed. It needs to be installed with 4 screws and connected with a ground stud.

What is the environmental restriction of TSP® and what are the options?

Even though TSP® had taken the soak test in the temperature of 50°C for 100 hours, its allowed outdoor temperature is between 0°C and 40°C. When the temperature exceeds the allowed limit, a special enclosure with cooling function should be installed. Environment with corrosive chemicals or excessive humidity, TSP® needs a hermetic seal or other proper enclosure which satisfies the NEMA-standard requirements is required. This can be supplied upon the order of clients.

Does it need a service personnel for adjustment, maintenance or test drive of TSP®?
No. any talented electrician, maintenance manager or administrator can perform the job. TSP® doesn’t need any special maintenance or after service other than the Initial timer setting or other special adjustment. Regular testing is performed by the engineer of WESCO using the tester, once a year or whenever the test is needed, for example, when TSP® out of order. The guideline on this matter is explained in detail, in the service/installation manual.
What should I do when it is out of order?

TSP® automatically switches into bypass mode when it has an internal fault or external influence(overload, over-current etc.), and the users can manually change its mode for 3-phase TSP®.

Also, there is an alarm function that announces the irregularities.

In the event of failure, if you let us know the failure symptoms or event logs(verifiable in the product – history DB, Log Data, Sag Event and etc.), we will inform you how to cope with the failure or a professional technician will be dispatched to deal with the matter.

How do I know if TSP® is working properly?
The simplest way to check is to take a look at the exterior of TSP® with the naked eye. Check if the “Fault Lamp,” in front of TSP®, is off. The second option is to check “Fault Message” of TSP® History D/B, using Power Monitoring S/W Sag-VIEWER™, provided by TSP®. The last option is to connect some kind of Monitoring Device, Counter or data logger to the diagnostic output of TSP®.
What kind of test equipment are there?
Voltage sag simulator which performs the basic test on the proper operation of TSP®, Utility Software which helps the users to check the operational status of TSP® through the PC and Full Load tester.
Is there any trial, SAMPLE TSP® available?

For the application area that was monitored by the power supplier or the consulting company or the area that we are very familiar because our experience in the past or the area that is already sufficiently investigated, we recommend you purchase the TEST TSP® with Money-back Guarantee, which will completely satisfy your needs. In the application area where

TSP® has never been tried, you can run TEST TSP® free of charge for a certain period of time.

How long is the warranty?
The warranty covers the purchased TSP® for 2 years.
What don’t we use USP with a similar capacity for the same purpose?

There are many reasons.

1. When voltage sag occurs, the loads will drop with the Off-Line UPS with smaller capacity because Off-Line UPS cannot switch-over fast enough. Ultra-fast switch-over is needed for many sensitive equipment because they start causing problems in a very short period of time, 1/4 Cycle(4ms). TSP® can switch over within 1/8 Cycle (2ms).

2. Many other USPs cannot operate under inductive load or low power factor in switchboard.

3. Due to inrush current which is highly related to current Relays, Contactors or Starter, users need to choose oversize UPS to bear this inrush current. For this purpose, Static Switch of TSP® is overrated about 8-10 times in the aspect of voltage and current, thus the users don’t need to select oversize unit and select the size of the unit by the continuous VA rating.

4. Precise control is possible because the functions such as adjustable timer and variable transfer level are already included in each unit. Thus, no further purchase or installation of additional functions are needed unlike the case of UPS. USP provides the power current for an unlimited time because it doesn’t have timing device, and it is very dangerous in any case.

5. There are battery-related problems. Maintenance, replacement and hazardous waste processing and etc.

6. USP doesn’t satisfy the rigidity requirements of industrial environment. Sometimes cooling or ventilation is required and sometimes the thickness of its enclosure is too thin and not durable. There can be a limitation in applying UPS, due to the environmental constraint of the operation site.
Is the price of TSP® with smaller capacity higher than the price of UPS with the proper capacity?

Per VA price is lower than UPS because even TSP® with minimum standard has unique features as stated below.

1. TSP® uses standby structure, super high-speed transfer time of 2mS, which is highly reliable.

2. TSP® doesn’t need maintenance because it has no additional cooling fan with Off-Line compensation method.

3. TSP® is very cost-efficient because it doesn’t need additional maintenance by using low-voltage Ultra-Capacitor with no battery which can last over 10 years.

4. TSP® includes adjustable Ride-Through Timer and Variable Transfer Level.

5. TSP® uses Overrated Static Switch which doesn’t need over-sizing according to changing loads.

6. TSP®’s Housing is more suitable for the harsh industrial environment.

7. Long-term maintenance cost is negligible because TSP® doesn’t need regular maintenance.

Even though the initial installation cost is somewhat higher, in the long term, TSP® is more efficient because it doesn’t need a battery and there is no regular repair or further replacement cost.

Does TSP® have Surge Protection function?

TSP® has Surge Protection function in its internal system and passed Surge Test, CE certification test.

Also, for the surge protection of client company, users can install additional Surge Protector.

I’m worried that the resonance occurs in between Ultra-Capacitor and coils of Starters(e.g. pure reactive load).

Maximum resonance frequency can occur in the maximum reactive load. In this case, the calculated frequencies are as follows: in 500VA unit, fr = 4.75 Hz and in 3kVA unit, fr = 5.5Hz. In our calculation, there is a possibility of some kind of oscillation only when the resonance frequency is higher than the system frequency of 60Hz, but it never actually happened.

Under Full Bridge structure with Free-Wheeling Diodes, reactive energy returns every half-cycle after it is perfectly controlled. Self-oscillation doesn’t occur through bridge.

Do you have CE certification, or do you have any other certification?
